A special message from the Pack Committee ...

The pack is all about family.  Sharing and participating in pack activities and events as a family brings more meaning to the Cub Scout experience for your son.  Enriching experiences don’t happen by themselves, however.  We need families to help put together the fun and exciting events we offer.  We especially need people that haven’t volunteered before because that’s where new ideas come from.  Just a few hours here and there can make all the difference.  Contact Jack to join the fun!

These positions are currently occupied by parents of Webelo II boys and will be vacant after this year.  Won't you think about stepping up?

  • Pack Committee Chairman - Coordinates Pack Committee meetings

Treasurer's Report
At the conclusion of popcorn activity and after purchasing T-shirts we have over $3000 in the pack account.  We discussed several ideas for using the money to benefit the boys including a Space Derby (similar to Pinewood Derby), an evening at the M.O.S.T., snow shoeing at Beaver Lake, maple sugaring at Beaver Lake or a local Lysander sugaring operation, and/or an overnight in a cabin at Camp Woodland in April.

Pack Business
Popcorn – Popcorn prizes will arrive in January.

Class B T-shirts –T-shirts have been ordered and will be here in early January.

Ice skating at Clinton Square – Reservations have been made for 6-8 PM on December 30th at the Clinton Square ice rink.  At 4 PM Pat will lead an optional hour long urban hike downtown to observe history, architecture and Christmas décor.  At 5 PM Chris will take over at the Salina Street entrance of the Syracuse Newspapers to lead an hour long tour of the building.  At 6 PM we will begin skating for the evening.  If the weather is bad we will skip the urban hike but still have the newspaper tour and skate.  We have a special rate for the rink - $3.00 per person includes skate rental but we need to identify ourselves at members of Pack 234 to get the special rate.  Jack will invite Troop 114 to join us and Nancy has invited her Brownie troop to come as well.

Pinewood Derby – The Derby has been moved from January 17th to January 24th due to  a conflict with the Aspen House.  Jack will create a signup sheet to circulate at Thursday’s pack meeting to recruit parent volunteers to help run the Derby on January 23rd and 24th.  Jack asked if the scale we used to weigh the cars last year was working OK and Pat said there were no real problems last year.  Scott will get a projector and screen for use on Derby day and we’re assuming Russ will provide and operate the laptop and Derby software.

Movie Night – Jack will be running “Down and Derby” this year.  The event will be held on January 18th, the Sunday before Derby day and day before Martin Luther King’s birthday so the kids won’t have school the next day.  Jack will provide the video and popcorn, Nancy will check on our lemonade supply and Scott will get the projection system from St. Mark’s.

M.O.S.T. Webelos Overnight – Nancy will provide a signup sheet and flyer for Thursday’s Pack meeting and will encourage Webelos to signup right away so we can phone in our reservation ASAP.

Pack closet – Nancy suggested that the den leaders meet over the Christmas break to go through the Pack closet as both a learning and organization exercise.

Bobcat advancement – We are planning to use our standard face paint ceremony for the Bobcat ceremony on Thursday.

Other business – Tanner Anthony brought a friend to the September Pack meeting and was promised a prize for doing so.  Pat will speak with Deb about prize possibilities.

An agenda for Thursday's pack meeting was reviewed.  The theme is "Holiday Lights" and our holiday treat for the boys will be an ice cream social.  Nancy will get the sundae supplies.   Scott will get the projector for the slideshow.  Russ will provide the laptop.  Here’s the basic agenda that we prepared …
